Soundtrack Replacement Projects

Putting music by my favorite bands with some of my favorite movies is a long time hobby of mine. Here's a video with examples of some of the movies and music I've mixed together. Enjoy!

(PS: The video above is a fan edit. I did not create, nor do I own, any of the material you see or hear in it.)

BRMC- Sympathetic Noose

Here is a music video I edited for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's song, "Sympathetic Noose".

(This is a fan video using clips found on the internet. I do not own any of the material in this video, nor was I commissioned to create it. Thank you.)

Fragments

Here's a music video I edited for a song I wrote called "Fragments". The song eventually made its way onto a Protesters album. The video was taken on my 24th birthday. Hope you like it!

The Cincinnati Zoo

Here's a video compiling footage I've taken at The Cincinnati Zoo through the years. Shots of a hummingbird and butterfly (taken in my back yard) are also included. The song used is a new composition by me. Enjoy!

Lost: In Sequence

Back when "Lost" was still airing, I edited the first 4 seasons to play out in order, front to back, eliminating the flashback/flashforward storytelling style "Lost" was so famous for. I've chosen the plane crash sequence (and the complicated series of events that led up to it) to post here. These scenes were scattered throughout the first few seasons. I've simply edited them together to reveal how events happened in real time. Namaste and enjoy the video!

(PS: Yes, that is "Star Wars" music you're hearing at some parts during the video. I love mixing the 2 franchises together, even editing the "Star Wars" saga in a "Lost" format, letting the original trilogy play out while inserting prequel scenes in as flashbacks. Thank you to John Williams and Michael Giacchino!)

Tough Talk

In 2010, Sahil Sharma asked me to provide music for his short film, "Tough Talk". I have selected the best cuts to display to you here now.
But first, you should check out Mr. Sharma's film, which stars Gregory Patrick Agnew, Michael Baker, and Kip Bennett. (As a warning, the film contains some disturbing subject matter and mild language.) Enjoy!

Part 2:

In addition to my work on "Tough Talk", I have since been asked to provide music for Mr. Sharma's short film, "3AM". Here are some cuts from "Tough Talk" and "3AM" for your downloading pleasure.

Welcome To Grotefilm

Cheers! My name is Derek Grote. Welcome to my new site! I've been making movies and music since I was little, and want this blog to serve as a place to present some of my work to you. Recently, I've been involved with a rock band, The Protesters, and working on a few screenplays as well. However, this site will mostly consist of my own film, editing, and soundtrack work. I also act occasionally and even hosted a local public access review show, "In Case You Missed It". I'm a graduate of The Recording Workshop of Ohio and have contributed music to local film soundtracks. I've also helped out on the set as a boom mic operator on a few of my friend's productions. Currently, I work as a projectionist at a local movie theater, learning the old school method of splicing and editing film. I hope you enjoy my work!
